From our four decades of representing school districts and other clients in school law matters, Wiley Malehorn Sirota & Raynes has considerable experience providing counsel and litigating matters arising out of the school law context. We are very familiar with the practical and legal issues faced by school districts and families alike, so that we can provide our clients quality legal services in a successful and efficient manner.

 

Our firm has the necessary experience to represent and counsel clients regarding employment issues such as reorganization, reductions in force, termination, employee discipline, transfers, leaves of absence, tenure charges, increment withholdings, staff evaluations, collective bargaining, contract interpretation, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, and whistleblower claims. We can assist in avoiding lawsuits through training, education, and mediation.

 

We also are fully versed in the laws regarding residency, the internet, student discipline, school violence, bullying, charter schools, and sending-receiving relationships, and can provide counsel and representation on all such issues.

 

The firm has the knowledge and experience to assist clients with issues related to the public entity status of school districts including, Open Public Meetings Act, Rice notices, Public School Contracts Law, Open Public Records Act, and school funding issues.

 

We practice before the Commissioner of Education, the Office of Administrative Law, the Public Employment Relations Commission, the state and federal courts, as well as arbitrators and mediators. Recognized in the field, we frequently lecture on current school law topics.

Special Education

Wiley Malehorn Sirota & Raynes has decades of experience representing clients in special education proceedings, including the mediation and litigation of claims under the IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the discrimination laws. We have been involved in special education law throughout its development in New Jersey. We represent school districts and parents wrestling with the education of students with an array of disabilities and classifications. We assist clients with presenting or responding to demands for speech, occupational, and physical therapies, accommodations, and/or residential placements. One of our attorneys regularly presents seminars to attorneys and educators on special education topics.
