Carolyn C. Duff

Carolyn Conway Duff grew up in Wyckoff, New Jersey. She received her bachelor’s degree, with Honors, from Rutgers College in 2002. While at Rutgers, Carolyn was the Vice President of Eta Sigma Phi, the National Classical Humanities Society, and a member of Phi Alpha Theta, National History Honor Society, Pi Sigma Alpha, National Political Science Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Carolyn earned her Juris Doctorate, with Honors, from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2006. While at Seton Hall, Carolyn was a Presidential Scholar, received Best Oral Advocate in Appellate Advocacy, Best Brief in the William B. Spong, Jr., Invitational Moot Court Tournament and was a semifinalist in the Eugene Gressman Moot Court Competition. Carolyn was a member of the Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board, the Interscholastic Moot Court Board and served as a research assistant for Professor Tracy Kaye. While obtaining her Juris Doctorate, Carolyn studied European Union law at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.

In 2007, Carolyn earned a Masters Law Degree in Law and Government from American University Washington School of Law, where she earned the Thomas O. Sargentich award for highest GPA in the Law and Government program. While at American University, Carolyn interned with the Office of Hearings, U.S. Department of Transportation.

Carolyn joined Wiley Malehorn Sirota & Raynes in 2009 and was promoted to the position of Counsel in 2018. Prior to joining the firm, Carolyn was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Dorothea O’C. Wefing, P.J.A.D. during the 2008-2009 term and served as the 2007-2008 Legal Fellow for the Media Law Resource Center in New York City.

Carolyn is admitted to the bars of New Jersey, New York, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey and the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She is a member of the Morris County Bar Association, and the New Jersey Bar Association, where she is a member of the Appellate Practice Committee.

Carolyn was included on the Super Lawyer Rising Star list from 2014 through 2020 by Super Lawyers magazine.

Carolyn authored “New Jersey Appellate Court Holds That Truth Is a Defense to Defamation Claim Despite Expungement,” a defamation case of first impression in New Jersey, "Age Discrimination in Jury Selection," 202 N.J.L.J. 711 (2010), “When is a Declarant’s Statement Admissible,” 211 N.J.L.J 719 (2013), “How Free Is Speech For Private Employees?” (N.J.L.J. 2022), and “How Defamation Law Impacts Online Reviews” (N.J.L.J. 2022). Carolyn co-authored "CEPA: When Whistleblowing is Just Part of Your Duties," 207 N.J.L.J. 830 (2012), “Justices Tackled Consumer Fraud, Just Compensation and Insurance This Year,” 217 N.J.L.J. 710 (2014), a summary of the latest developments in the area of commercial law in the New Jersey Law Journal's annual insert "N.J. Supreme Court Year in Review," and “A Wild Fortnight in Employment Law” N.J.L.J. (2020).

Carolyn has also been a presenter at a legal seminar at the annual Motorsports Convention and La Leche League of the Garden State annual conference. For the 2020-2021 school year, Carolyn served on her local elementary school’s Pandemic Response Team.

Carolyn is a member of the New Jersey Transcriber Certification Board. Carolyn is also a member of the Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library Board and enjoys volunteering at the library.

Carolyn lives in Somerset County with her husband, son and daughter.
